Why Cities Love Conventions
Even if your city gets the Convention of the party you aren't affiliated with, there is still plenty to be excited about. Although the 1988 Major of New Orleans was a Democrat, he explained the great press and huge amount of money that conventions funnel into cities in the weeks they stay there. Sidney Barthelemy also hoped, as I'm sure many other majors have in the past and present, that the Republican Convention would turn business men on to the idea of expanding their corporations into New Orleans. Basically, whether you like the party or not, conventions can be very beneficial to the cities they fall in.
